Daniel Vierge. Edition definitive; no. 236 of 300 exemplaires sur papier à la forme, signed by Vierge. xi, 229 pp. 4to. Daniel Vierge (1851-1904) revolutionized the reproduction of illustrations through the use of photo-reproduction with the publication of his edition of Francisco de Quevedo's Historia de la vida del Buscon ilamado don Pablos in 1882. Before the introducion of this technique, illustrators had to rely on tracings and other manual methods. Unfortunately, Vierge would never be a prolific artist. After suffering from a stroke at the age of 30, he had to teach himself to draw with his left hand. He died in 1904 at the age of 53.
