By Webb, Francis
Sydney: Angus and Robertson, 1948. Hardcover. Norman Lindsay. 37pp. Octavo [22 cm] Brown cloth covered boards with a brown ink stamped title and small vignette on the front cover. Very good. The boards have numerous small light spots, and the cloth on the boards is lightly rippled. The front and rear free endsheet are adhered to the opposite pages along the inside margins. There are a couple of very minor stains on the front endsheet. Browned pages. The dust jacket is in very good condition. Mildly rubbed and age-toned. There are multiple small chips and short closed tears in the edges. The longest closed tear is 1/2 of an inch long. The largest chip is at the head of the jacket's spine, and measures 1/2 of an inch wide by 1/4 of an inch deep. Norman Lindsay is clearly one of Australia’s most controversial artists. He challenged many aspects of society’s accepted painting, etching, drawing, sculpting and writing doctrines.
