This is Hervey's first installment of his history of horse racing in America, which would be followed by a two volume set covering the 1665-1865 period. In this volume he covers the 1922-1936 period, and provides ample details on races, horses and events surrounding the sport. He pays places a good deal of attention to breeding, and includes a table on pedigrees. He also includes a table presenting placements and winnings for lead horses for each year. This volume is handsomely illustrated.
