Folded four page letter sheet, with text on two and a quarter pages, signed, names noted on back page. Splits at some folds, but repaired with archival tape, hole in left side of the second leaf, but not affecting text, a little creasing, normal aging and toning; otherwise about very good. William H. Noble (1788-1850) was born in New Milford, Connecticut, but would eventually end up in New York. Despite a limited education, and being a tanner by trade, he would go on to become a state assemblyman, and in 1837 would be elected to the United States Congress. He served for one term. This letter is to the Comptroller of the State of New York and discusses his somewhat reluctant reappointment the post of Collector for the (Erie?) Canal. bioguide.congress.gov.
