Octavo [21.5 cm] 3/4 black leather with rose-colored paper covered boards, raised bands, and gilt stamped titles and panels on the spines. Top edges gilt. Other edges untrimmed. Matching rose-colored endpapers. Very good. Light rubbing to the extremities. The corners of the covers are just a little bumped. A handful of the spines are subtly faded. The front pastedowns have a previous owner's bookplates. The pages are tanned. The threads are visible in the inside margins of several of the volumes, however the books are very sturdy. With illustrations by the author, Richard Doyle, George Du Maurier, and Frederick Walker. The final volume includes Thackeray's contributions to Punch, not previously reprinted, and a list of Thackeray's characters.
