8vo, cloth, dust jacket, illustrated, 146 pp. Dust jacket slightly aged with a couple of corner chips; otherwise in excellent condition internally. Halaas tells the story of the development of newspapers in the Rocky Mountain mining camps from just before the Civil War to the early 1880s. Part of the story of these newspapers was to present a civilized front to the outside world, despite a rather rough and tumble lifestyle in the mining camps of the "Old West."
