Lincoln Shire.

By Morden, Robert.
Hand colored, simple cartouche, 17" x 15". Map laid down on cardboard backing, some foxing, soiling and staining, corner lower right hand margin with some tape discoloration, and slightly chipped in that margin, but not affecting image, tape may have been used to lay down map in places; despite imperfections a presentable map. Sold as is. Robert Morden (d1703) was a mapmaker that is first documented in 1668 trying to put up a building in Cornhill after the great fire in London. He is best known for the county maps featured in a new edition of Camden's Britannia that was produced by Edmund Gibson. These maps appeared in at least four editions. While hindered by a low survival rate, Morden also produced a number of attractive larger maps of London, Essex and some early maps of the American colonies. ODB.
