New York: Alfred A Knopf, 1983. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. A newly discovered first issue of the first edition, about which we could find no reference in other booksellers' description of the title and which we had never seen. Laid-in is a typed card titled CORRECTION from Knopf Publicity, which instructs the reader (or presumed reviewer but this copy does not have a review slip) that "(in) the book ... coming from Knopf September 23rd... the first full paragraph on page 6 is incorrect." and then quotes the corrected paragraph. The incorrect sentence as printed in the book is "The sun is some 50 billion miles away. or about 500 trillion times to far to be reached by a flashbulb." According to the card it should be changed to "The sun is 93 million miles away or about 50 billion times too far to be reached by a flashbulb." that presumably was done for subsequent printings. Book fine, dustjacket has tiny nick top edge front panel. For the modern first edition completist. Clean copy, no names, inscriptions or bookplates.
