12mo, original calf over wooden boards, 312 pp. Rubbing, wear, and some discoloration to covers and extremities, contents well soiled from use, a good deal of staining, darkening, and aging, lacks rear endpapers, front endpapers, with notes and previous owner's name; still a decent copy. Isaac Watts (1674-1748) was born in Southampton, and was a noted minister and writer. He started his career as a minister in 1698, at the age of 24, but his considerable output of published works is probably his most significant contribution. He is probably best know for his extensive publication of hymns, and for his Horae Lyrica, first published in 1706. The Psalms of David was first published 1719, and has appeared in several editions. The OCLC locates 15 copies of this edition. ODB. OCLC.
