Africae Antiquae…
- Amsterdam: , c1652.
Engraved map, uncolored, 375x530mm (21" x14 1/2"), wide margins, cartouche. Extraneous soft crease in left quadrant, middle crease slightly visible, top edge a little rough, normal aging; otherwise in very good condition. This is a handsome map of northern and central Africa, which presents the source of the Nile coming from lakes Zaire and Zaflin, near the Mountains of the Moon. There are eight Roman seals and two decorative cartouches on the map. The cartouches include Nicholas Blankaart's (1625-1703) name. Blankaart was a professor at Leiden who made maps for Joannes Janisson (1588-1664).
