Map of Asia from the Best Authorities.

Small engraved map, 19x23mm (8" x 9 1/2"), lined border, title on map, but no date or location. Two very minor archival tape repairs at edges, normal browning and aging, margins a little narrow, and slightly uneven; otherwise very good. William Guthrie (1708-1770) was born in Scotland, and educated at Kings College. He started out as a reporter for the Gentleman's Magazine, but would become known for more scholarly efforts, including his History of England. However, his real success came with the publication of his Geographical, Historical and Commercial Grammar first published in 1770. This attractive, and detailed little map of Asia comes from an edition of that work published around 1790. ODNB.
