- SIGNED Softcover
- Mount McKinley, Alaska , 1930
Mount McKinley, Alaska, 1930. Softcover. Near Fine. Oblong octavo. Measuring 8.5" x 5.5". String-tied brown flexible leather wrappers illustrated with a forest scene and the words, "Happy Days in C.C.C." emblazoned on the front cover. A collection of 78 sepia toned, black and white, or color photographs of men in the Civilian Conservation Corps affixed to stiff blank black paper. Various sizes with most between 2.25" x 3.25" and 6.5" x 4.5. Near fine with very tiny tears on the edges of the first few pages and slight creasing. An assemblage of images of men working for the CCC in Alaska as part of Roosevelt's New Deal. Includes numerous images of the Alaskan landscape including Mount McKinley (now Denali) and some of the surrounding wildlife, also men in camp, participating in construction projects, and tent housing. The corps was available to unmarried men ages 18-25 who were members of families on relief. As a program, the agency was responsible for helping to reforest the United States, construct state parks such as Denali State Park in Alaska (depicted here), as well as build roads and sewer lines in remote areas. An excellent collection housed in a special CCC album illustrating the daily life of the young men struggling to combat the effects of the Great Depression.
