A Reply to Mr. Cooke's Pamphlet, "The Electric Telegraph; was it Invented by Professor Wheatstone?"

8vo, pamphlet, later leather spine and cloth, gilt spine with spine label, 74 pp. Some browning and aging, title with some staining and soiling, small ink stain through first couple of pages, first few pages with a small chip in upper corner; otherwise very good in an attractive binding. This pamphlet concerns a debate on the roles of Charles Wheatstone and Thomas Fothergill Cooke in the invention of the telegraph. Apparently, despite collaboration on the telegraph, this work presents a discussion that generally supports the important role of Wheatstone and challenges comments made by Cooke on the subject. Ironically, Samuel Morse is the name most people think of with respect to the invention of the telegraph, as a result of the practical and commercial success of his system. OCLC.
