Winter (1923-2020) was an attorney and Democratic politician in Mississippi. He served in the Mississippi House of Representatives, as state treasurer and lieutenant governor of Mississippi, and he was governor of Mississippi from 1980 to 1984. He was also a member of President Clinton's Advisory Board on Race. Winter wrote all of his own speeches, and this book is a collection of a number of his speeches from the early 1960s through the early 2000s, revealing a progressive political philosophy related to subjects such as race, religion, education, book banning, civil liberties, and environmental conservation.
