Very good copy with faint spots of foxing to endsheets. The dust jacket is in very good condition, but shows some light soiling. There are intermittent closed tears along the edges, the longest measuring 1 1/2" long. There is also one short closed tear in the surface of the rear panel, near the fold of the spine. The Utah naturalist author's scarce second book. First printing, with the complete number row down to one. Signed by the author on the second page next to the cattail illustration. Beautifully illustrated by Peter Parnall, who was also the illustrator for Edward Abbey's Desert Solitaire. A juvenile title about life in the Bear River Migratory Bird refuge, a freshwater marsh on the shores of the Great Salt lake in Utah.
