Wickes a doctor himself was a member of the Medical Society of New Jersey, the AMA, and the New Jersey Historical Society. This is a somewhat scare title that includes coverage of a range of subjects from early inoculation practices to military hospitals. In the second part of the work, Wickes includes brief biographical sketches of New Jersey physicians.
