A Memorial Delivered to His Majesty (July 1664) from the Lord Van-Gogh (Contained in Memorial to Charles II, pgs. 1-16)

Translatred into English, "with the Answer which his Sacred Majesty returned theronto". Two pamphlets bound together. These two pamphlets are important exchanges in the escalating struggle between the British and the Dutch, which led to the declaration of war a few months after the pamphlets were published, and also includes references to the West Indies. The Gogh pamphlet consists of some charges by the Dutch against the British interference and states "the fitting and preparing of Vessels of War on both sides", delivered just a few days before the British took New Amsterdam, prompting a lengthy and bitter reply by Sir George Downing., 1665. The 2 pamphlets are16 and 104 pgs. respectively and measure 7 5/8" x 6". The binding is a later half brown calf and marbled brown boards. (Also contains "A Reply of Sir George Downing Knight and Baronet, Envoy Extraordinaire from His Majesty of Great Britain, by Sir George Downing. To the Remarks of the Deputies of the Estates General upon his Memorial of December 20, 1664 Old Stile" (pgs. 1-104). Affixed to the front pastedown is a bookseller's description of the book. The Gogh pamphlet has been cropped a bit too close, affecting the catchwords, and has a small 1/2" hole that has gone thru each page, affecting a few letters. The title page has scattered slight browning. The Downing pamphlet is clean and cropped correctly. Pages arwe tight in the binding.
