Copper engraved double page map, uncolored, small cartouche in lower left corner, 23 1/2" x 18 1/2", wide margins. Old tape repair to centerfold on reverse side, some chips and tears in margins with some archival tape repairs, some soiling and staining in margins. impression generally clean and crisp. Jansson (1588-1664) was a Dutch mapmaker during the "golden age" of Dutch cartography. He started out as a publisher and bookseller, but when he married the daughter of another mapmaker, Jodocus Hondius, he got into that business. In 1633 he and his brother-in=law (Henry Hodicus) produced the two volume edition of the Mercator Atlas. The present map shows Hungarian considerable detail, and has a small cartouche featuring a man and woman next two a coat of arms. Portinaro and Knirsch p.315. Van De Gohm p.112-113.
