New York: Longmans, Green & Company. Very Good+ in Very Good- dj. (c.1949). Second Edition. Hardcover. NOISBN . [good solid copy, minor shelfwear, some dust-darkening to top edge; jacket shows wear at edges and corners, chips at top of spine corners (unfortunately affecting author's name), small chips at top/bottom edges of rear panel]. The author, the wife of artist Douglas Grant (the jacket designer for this book), has written "a fast-paced, moving novel of modern youth," which follows a young Manhattan woman who wins a radio contest and receives a scholarship to a "progressive" college in upstate New York. She "breaks away from home and family to live her own life," which brings her relationship with her mother to a "tragic impasse." Disillusioned in love while away at college, she returns to New York City "friendless and alone [and] at grips with the realities of existence in New York's slums." .
