Good +. 223; 4pp. Duodecimo [18.5 cm] Brown cloth with a gilt stamped spine, and decorative blind and black ink stamped borders on the spine and covers. Four pages of publisher's adverts at the rear. The extremities are moderately bumped and rubbed, the front endsheet is cracked along the hinge, and there is a former owner's bookplate on the front pastedown. Chapter nine is titled 'The Mormon City' (p.114-134) and chapter ten is titled 'Salt Lake City' (p.114-134). A very uneven account of the Mormons in the Great Basin. "Not to mince the matter, I never saw such a collection of ugly, shriveled, melancholy looking women in my life." Much of the content in these two chapters deal with the author's fascination with the practice of polygamy. Flake/Draper 4496.
