[Photo Album]: 1950s Parties

1950. Hardcover. Near Fine. Small quarto measuring 11 ½" x 9". Three-prong binder in light brown wrappers. Contains 99 photographs inserted into corner mounts, most measuring 3 ½" x 3 ½" to 3 ½" by 5", a few larger; most are black and white, a few are in color. Album and contents near fine or better, lacking one photo, final 12 pages blank. A collection of photographs featuring images of parties and the people enjoying them. The holidays include Christmas, New Year's, and Halloween with a Hawaiian themed party thrown in. There's a lot of drinking, dancing, and general carousing as well as a great shot of two people kissing. There's men dressed in drag, people in blackface, others bobbing for apples, people blindfolded and plenty of women in fashionable clothes. There are also some large print photographs depicting smiling party-goers dancing and posing under decorations.

An album of genuine joy, documenting a still-innocent America at the dawn of the Cold War's grip on its conscience.
