Small quarto. Original publisher's pictorial wrappers. 30 pp.

Program for a performance at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre for the week beginning June 19, 1950 with cast including Maie Powers as the Mother, Cornell MacNeil as John Sorel, and Patricia Neway as Magda Sorel.

Very slightly worn. The Consul, a musical drama in three acts by Menotti to his own libretto, was first performed in Philadelphia at the Shubert Theatre on March 1, 1950.

"The Philadelphia première was a try-out for a Broadway run that began on 15 March 1950 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre with Thomas Schippers conducting. It was enormously successful and that year won the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for the best musical play and the Pulitzer Prize for Music. It enjoyed a run of 269 performances in New York and the following year was produced at La Scala, Milan, and in London, Zürich, Berlin and Vienna." Bruce Archibald in Grove Music Online.
