Cleveland: Marine Review, 1898. Cloth. Very Good. The 1898 Blue Book of American shipping, essentially an exhaustive accounting of the year's commerical shipping activities on major American waterways. Broken down into several separate sections, including " a list of lake vessels and statistics", a "list of coast and river steamers and sail vessels and statistics", "fleet owners and ship builders of the world" and "directory and advertisements of the marine business concerns in the United States". A thick, oblong quarto (brick-sized), in its original light-blue cloth, with still-bright gilt-design ( a 45-star American flag) and gilt-lettering at the front panel. Tight, solid and VG. A 2 1/2" closed tear (with accompanying creasing) at both the pictorial frontispiece and the title page, and very light scuffing to the rear panel. Otherwise, very clean, with no writing or foxing to the text. Publisher's multi-colored edges and wonderful local ads at the rear.
