[Photo Pages]: Michigan Family, Doctors and Nurse
- Unbound
- Michigan , 1915
Michigan, 1915. Unbound. Very Good. An archive of 25 loose photo pages measuring 5.5" x 7". Contains 97 sepia toned or black and white gelatin silver photographs measuring between 1.5" x 4" and 3" x 5" with captions. Very good pages with some tears and edgewear.
A photo album kept by a family in Battlecreek, Michigan beginning in 1913 and continuing through 1915 featuring nurses and doctors who worked at the local hospital. One photo shows a group of nurses and doctors "breaking ground for Rogers-Davis Annex to Nichols Hospital." This hospital was dedicated in 1890 with 60 rooms and eventually ran an accredited nursing school. The album was compiled by one of the nurses at the hospital and shows her family in Michigan as well as various colleagues including a large number of portraits of doctors. The doctor photos are interspersed throughout the album and show them seated and posed for photos as well as outside walking to the hospital and in their cars. Nurses are featured throughout at well posed on the hospital grounds in uniform as well as during their leisure time. It appears they enjoyed swimming, playing tennis, and takes walks in local nature areas. One photo shows a group of women approaching a cow on a farm, others show them cuddling a dog, and one has them all posed on a boat in a lake. The hospital was eventually named Community Hospital and was moved in 1938.
A modest but interesting collection of photographs compiled by a Michigan nurse.
