A pristine example of this lavish portfolio in celebratration of the 72nd birthday of artist David Jackson, who was poet James Merrill's long-term companion in Stonington, CT. Limited to only 100 copies, the 1994 portfolio consists of loose signatures (as issued) gathered into a cream-colored chemise and a bright-blue outer cloth, with a pictorial label pasted onto its front panel and an ivory clasp. THIS COPY IS INSCRIBED BY JAMES MERRILL IN YEAR-OF-PUBLICATION on the chemise's front cover. The lovely color reproductions (which "are printed on Mohawk Superfine by the Stinehour Press") are tipped-in and each vignette is written by either David Jackson or James Merrill. "The handset Geramond type is letterpress printed on Arches mouldmade papers and bound in portfolios by Nadja.
