New York: J.H. Sears & Company, Inc.. Very Good in Fair dj. 1929. 4th printing. Hardcover. NOISBN . [a good sound copy, light shelfwear, a little wear to cloth at ends of spine, some age-toning to edges of text block; the jacket is a bit of a mess, with a heavily soiled and faded spine, an irregular chunk missing at the bottom right corner of the front panel, some shallow chipping along the top edge, and various other depredations]. "An all informing novel of the love which expresses itself in passion and warmth -- which binds men and women in locked embrace, and, alas, too often through ignorance of its meaning drives them asunder. Yet this love when deeply based both physically and spiritually, when properly and profoundly understood, may hold them together for a lifetime -- one flesh and one spirit, linked by bonds of steel." What this all has to do with maypoles escapes me, although it does sound a bit like a high-minded dirty book, so maybe a pole isn't just a pole, if you catch my drift. I'm amazed that this book could have gone through eight printings (at least) [this one is only the 4th, but I've had an 8th in the past], and yet be so relatively scarce today, especially in any kind of dust jacket, even one as compromised as this example. .
