As a young man, Low went to Orkney as a tutor in 1868, and spent the entirety of his adult life studying the natural history of the island. The publisher's taupe boards have decorative stamping in the Eastlake style. They have rubbing, especially to the extremities. Half-title and title have foxing. Binding a bit shaken.
