According to an introductory note, this scene was omitted from "The Green Pastures" due to time limitations, and was first published in the September 1930 issue of Hearst's International Cosmopolitan magazine, with the subtitle "the act which the author loved most." The back of the book contains descriptions of nine other titles in the publisher's "Playable Short Plays" series, which was edited by Glenn Hughes, Director of the Division of Drama at the University of Washington. .
