Philadelphia, Pennsylvania / Quebec, Canada, 1935. Unbound. A collection of 38 gelatin silver photographs measuring around 4½" x 2¾", along with 34 postcards postdated November-December 1935. The photographs are moderately curled, with light wear along the edges, the postcards with some soiling and staining, very good overall.

The collection of photographs focus on a Boy Scouts troop, as they traveled in a canvas back truck with a large sign reading “Boy Scout Troop #97, Philadelphia, Quebec,” presumably on a trip from Philadelphia to Quebec. The photos show the boys posed with the truck at several different locations, as well as photos of their camp set up with large tents, cooking, exploring rivers and gorges, a couple photos at “Qua Mineral Springs” (likely in Saratoga Springs, New York), and more.

The names of the Scouts as they appear on the postcards would seem to indicate that the vast majority of the Scouts were Jewish. They are replies to whether or not they would like to remain on the mailing list for Troop #97 activities. A majority of the letters are warmly written and ask to be kept on the list: “I was certainly surprised to receive your card, and glad to know that Troop 97 keeps their former scouts in their memory.” Three letter ask to be taken off the list. All on prepaid postcards, addressed to Ellwood L. Englander in Philadelphia, presumably one of the troops Leaders.

An interesting small archive from a primarily Jewish Boy Scout Troop's camping trip from Philadelphia to Quebec.
