[Photo Album]: Mennonite Travel in the West in 1924
- Softcover
- 1924
1924. Softcover. Very Good. Oblong small quarto. Measuring 11" x 7". String tied-wrappers. Lacks front wrap, rear wrap with a tape repair, else very good, images are near fine. Contains 222 mostly sepia-toned gelatin silver photographs, various sizes, mostly about 4¼" x 3½", but several larger. Most are captioned either in the negative or with white album ink. An interesting travel album of a tour group to the West in 1924 which includes several Mennonites (or possibly all Mennonites), among them a Pennsylvania-born teacher, a Mennonite who is identified on the first page and who we assume kept the album. The first dozen or two images are of Niagara Falls and Michigan, but the vast majority of the images are in the West, many in California including San Francisco, Los Angeles (including a Mennonite Church); Salt Lake City and the Great Salt Lake, Utah; Oregon; Mt. Rainer in Washington, Colorado including Denver, Pike's Peak, Cripple Creek, etc., Yellowstone, a few in Mexico, and others. Includes a small number of typed captions from 1985 affixed in the album. Many candid shots: Native Americans, bears, buffalo, Pike's Peak automobile climb races, and others.
