By Shaw, Thomas G.
Baltimore: Bacchus Press, nd (1992). Facsimile edition. Hardcover. Full Burgundy bonded leather gilt. Fine. xv, 540, (24 index) pages. Octavo. One of 500 copies. A very attractively bound facsimile edition of the 1864 second edition (expanded and considerably revised from the 1863 first edition), printed on acid-free paper and retaining the folding plates that appeared in the original. Shaw was a Scottish wine merchant who was almost single-handedly credited with bringing about a reduction in the tax on wine coming into Great Britain and Ireland. Andre Simon called this title "one of the most interesting books we have on the subject." A must have for any serious wine collector. [GABLER G38330] - (referring to the second edition).
