- 1938
1938. Cards. Illustrated cards. Very good. 21 x 13.5 cm. The T.S.S. "HECTOR" was a set of four sister ships built for Alfred Holt and Company of Liverpool - part of the Blue Funnel Line. Sister ships were Sarpedon, Patroclus, and Antenor - all named after characters in Homer's Iliad.
The stunning nighttime illustration that extends from the verso to the front cover is the work of Walter Thomas (1894 - 1971) - A Liverpool borne marine painter and illustrator who painted in both oil and watercolour.
The dinner menu for Sunday, December 25th, 1938 was crowded with a wide array of European inspired delights and many fish dishes - Caviare Baton, Tortue Claire, Tay Salmon, Cape Lobster, along with Lamb, Turkey, Pheasant Capon, and an assortment of desserts. Light foxing to interior, covers clean.
