1905-1907. A group of three original items related to the Deutscher Verein (German Association) at Harvard University:
1 - Commersbuch des Deutschen Vereins der Universität Harvard, May 1905. Small 8-page songbook (20 x 12.5 cm) featuring traditional toasts and drinking songs. Sewn binding; closed tears at the head and tail of the spine.
2 - Deutscher Verein Membership Form, October 1906. Printed membership form (16 x 13 cm) for the German Association, indicating membership for October 1906 ($5.00 dues). Signed by a member; horizontal crease at center.
3 - Abendbrot des Deutschen Vereins der Universität Harvard. Original menu for the Association’s dinner (15 x 11.5 cm). The menu lists poached salmon, chicken pie, Roman punch, turkey & cranberry sauce, cheese, and wine. Evening included toasts to Kaiser Wilhelm II and President Roosevelt, and presentations on “The German Fleet,” “The German Association,” “German Culture,” and “Berlin and Harvard,” by professors including Kuno Francke and Hugo Münsterberg. Signed in ink on the cover; lightly soiled.
