By
Evanston, Illinois, 1936. Cards. Blue illustrated cards. Good. Written on the interior of the menu: "Friday, Oct 23, 1936". The HUT was a popular spot among the college crowd at Northwestern University. In fact, the headline at the top of the menu states: We Deliver To All Parts Of The Campus. Can you imagine what type of vehicle was used for the deliveries and how the food was packaged? The menu includes the Toasted Club Style Three Decker - Sorority Special (Roast Beef - American Cheese, Sweet Relish, Lettuce, Mayonnaise) or the Fraternity Special (Ham and Egg, Lettuce, Mayonnaise), Special Sandwiches, Sundaes, and Sodas. The owner, Joseph Shikany (1906-1982) was a first generation American born to Syrian parents. Joe later opened a second HUT in Los Angelos, California. Toning and creasing, with one closed tears to the tail of the spine.
